Assistant Professor of the Practice of Hebrew Language

The Department of Asian & Middle Eastern Studies (AMES) at Duke University invites applicants for an Assistant Professor of the Practice, beginning August 1, 2020. This is a regular rank, renewable faculty position with a four- or five-year term. The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. prior to the appointment, demonstrate a strong record of teaching, and show evidence of ongoing scholarly and professional development. Experience in administrative service is desirable. The selected candidate will be responsible for coordinating and developing the Hebrew language curriculum. It is also expected that the candidate will contribute to the Middle East literature and culture program and to AMES at large. In addition to administrative duties related to the position, the teaching load for this faculty position is 2/3. We strongly prefer applicants with a principal expertise in applied linguistics and second language pedagogy, but will also consider candidates with expertise in literature, cultural studies, visual studies, history, and related fields. A native or near-native command of both Hebrew and English is required.
