Assistant Professor, Spanish Linguistics, Heritage/Bilingual Learner Pedagogy

The Spanish Discipline in the Department of Modern Foreign Languages seeks a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor, Spanish linguistics to begin August 2020. Responsibilities include language teaching, developing and directing the Spanish for Heritage Learners undergraduate curriculum, advising, and service; participation in university life, especially in Latinx heritage programming in the discipline and college, is strongly encouraged. Teaching load is 3/3, with the possibility of an overload assignment for additional compensation.

 

Required qualifications:

Successful candidates will have a Ph.D.in Spanish Linguistics or related field. Advanced ABD candidates will be considered. Candidates must show native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English, must have a strong teaching record, and have research interests in Spanish as a heritage language, and  a strong commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education. Dominican seeks candidates who are committed to working with diverse student and community populations.

 

Preferred qualifications:

Preference to candidates with expertise in teaching Latinx students, research on heritage language learning and curriculum development, or Second Language acquisition.
