Assistant Professor of Italian Language and Society

The Department of German, Russian, Italian and Arabic (GRIA) at Hamilton College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Italian language and society at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2021.

We are interested in hiring an interdisciplinary scholar whose work and teaching focus on contemporary Italian culture, and whose teaching and research can also contribute to one or more of the College’s other departments or interdisciplinary programs.

We seek a scholar with a strong record of excellence in teaching Italian at all levels, as well as experience in building a successful language program that engages students creatively both in the classroom and with co-curricular activities.

The person hired will teach both Italian language classes and courses relevant to their interests and areas of expertise. We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate their experience in teaching or working with diverse student populations. Your cover letter should address the ways in which you would further the College's goal of building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive educational environment. While we will consider advanced ABD candidates, Ph.D. in Italian, Italian Studies, or related field is preferred.

The teaching load for this position is four courses during the first year and five courses thereafter. Candidates should submit a cover letter, c.v., and teaching portfolio via Interfolio at https://secure.interfolio.com/78663. Letters of reference will be requested from candidates selected for the first round of interviews. Questions regarding the search may be directed to Heather Merrill, Search Committee Chair, at hmerrill@hamilton.edu. Our review of applications will begin on November 9,2020.
