ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF FRENCH

The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of French position to begin in August 2021. Fields of expertise may include the Middle Ages, 16th century, 17th century, 18th century, 19th century, or studies in Francophone literatures and cultures of Sub-Saharan Africa, French Polynesia, and/or Canada. This position has a 3-2 teaching load and will include instruction of all levels of French language and upper-level courses such as (but not limited to) French business, literature, culture, and French for the professions.

Required qualifications: Applicants for this position must have a PhD in French in hand by August 16, 2021. (ABDs selected for a preliminary interview must provide evidence of probability of completing degree by time of appointment.)

Native or near-native fluency in French and English is also required. Applicants must also provide evidence of teaching excellence at the college level in addition to a well-developed research plan. Willingness to direct study abroad programs, to contribute to online course development, and to participate in the development of the French program (including extracurricular activities) is expected. Familiarity with current language pedagogy and the ACTFL Guidelines as well as experience in innovative course curricula are highly desirable.

The candidate selected for this position must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
