The Department of English at Rider University invites applications for a tenure-track position in creative writing at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in September 2021.

The successful candidate, in addition to teaching and pursuing scholarship and/or creative activity in his/her field of expertise, is expected to teach composition regularly and to become actively involved in our Composition Program. All Rider faculty members are expected to maintain excellence in student-centered undergraduate teaching and advising, scholarly activity, and departmental and institutional service. 

The teaching load at Rider University is six sections per academic year and this position may include upper-division courses in creative writing and for our certificate in Publishing and Professional Writing, along with general-education literature courses and composition.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. or MFA in creative writing
  • Coursework or professional experience in literary editing and publishing
  • Undergraduate teaching experience with a diverse body of students
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred specializations include playwriting, screenwriting, or genre fiction (e.g., fantasy, science fiction, Afrofuturism, Africanfuturism, magical realism)
  • Training or experience in the teaching of grant writing
