Assistant Professor

The Department of English and Foreign Languages at Louisiana State University Shreveport invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Rhetoric/Writing/Composition beginning August 2021.

Responsibilities:

Teach 3 courses per semester (75%)

Assume administrative and advisory duties to coordinate freshman composition and to promote and develop an existing writing concentration for the B.A. (25%).  Duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Exercise leadership in keeping the department current in its teaching of composition and in developing new courses in writing and rhetoric
  • Mentor adjunct instructors: acclimatize them to the department, oversee the development of syllabi and assignments, calibrate essay grading, review teaching evaluations
  • Conduct mock grading sessions and roundtable discussions on topics such as classroom pedagogy
  • Prepare annual reports on the performance of students in freshman composition courses

Opportunities to develop specialized courses in writing will be available.  Scholarly activity and service to the department, the university, and the community will also be expected.  We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in one or more ancillary areas such as technical writing and digital humanities.  Candidates with a Ph.D. are preferred, but we will consider advanced ABD’s.  Apply through Interfolio or send application letter, vita (including your email address and list of references) to Terry G Harris, Chair; Department of English and Foreign Languages at Terry.Harris@lsus.edu
