Call for Applications: Tenure-Track Professorship for North American Literature and Cultural Studies, Department of English at The University of Freiburg, Germany

Deadline: March 1, 2021

Applications from researchers who have just completed their doctoral degree and are in the early phase of their career are strongly encouraged. The successful applicant will assume responsibilities in research and teaching in the area of Literary Studies, Media Studies, and Cultural Studies. Therefore the successful candidate will have to demonstrate expertise in American literature, be familiar with media studies research, and have the skills to teach courses on American cultural history. Preference will be given to candidates whose research and teaching discusses questions related to ethnic and cultural diversity.

This position is a fixed term of four years. After a successful interim evaluation, it will be extended by two years. Furthermore, the tenure procedure towards Full Professorship W3 will be initiated after successful interim evaluation.

The tenure procedures are regulated in the Statutes and Quality Assurance Concept for Junior Professorships and Tenure-Track Professorships and agreed upon with the Ministry of Science (https://www.zuv.uni-freiburg.de/service/tenure). As a prerequisite for granting tenure and the subsequent conversion into a full professorship, (1) the requirements defined in the Statutes and Quality Assurance Concept have to be met and (2) the subject specific criteria determined by the Philological Faculty have to be met.
