Job Description:

Goucher College invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Chinese and Asian Studies, in the Center of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, starting in August 2021. We are looking to hire someone who has native or near-native fluency in Chinese and English, and who has experience teaching Mandarin Chinese as a foreign language, and is able to teach Mandarin Chinese language courses from the beginning to the upper intermediate levels as well as other courses in their field(s) of specialization, and possibly general education courses.

 

Requirements:

A commitment to teaching excellence and teaching experience are required. The candidate's field of specialization is open and we are especially interested in faculty who are engaged with the fields of Sinophone Studies and can bring new approaches to expand upon our existing Asia-related courses in History, Political Science, and Philosophy. The successful candidate will also play an integral role in shaping a planned Asian Studies minor and will sustain an active research agenda. The position requires completion of a Ph.D. before the time of appointment. The standard teaching load is 20 credits, or typically five courses, per year.
