Assistant Professor of Instruction, Modern Languages

Responsibilities:

The University of Akron, Department of Modern Languages invites applications for a non-tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Instruction. Appointment begins Fall Semester of 2021, with possibility of ongoing renewal. Teaching responsibilities will include: teaching beginning and intermediate level Spanish courses with a 24 annual credit hour load using both face to face and synchronous and asynchronous online delivery. Service responsibilities will include: coordinating second year intermediate Spanish language courses (Spanish 201-202); organizing and conducting extra-curricular activities for Spanish minors and majors; and other duties as assigned by chair.

Required Qualifications:

Masters Degree: area of specialization is open but must be in Spanish with a strong interdisciplinary focus; native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English; and college teaching experience both in traditional classrooms and online teaching format with expertise in the communicative student-centered approach. Candidates in Hispanic Studies (language, literature and cultures), Spanish Applied Linguistics, Spanish Sociolinguistics and Spanish for Specific Purposes are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in appropriate field; demonstrated excellence in one or more of the following: teaching Spanish for Health Professions, community-based learning, leading a study abroad program and / or course coordination.
