Early Modern Literature Assistant Professor, Tenure-track

Tufts University invites applicants for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of English.  Ph.D. must be awarded by August 2022.  Evidence of superior scholarship and teaching excellence required.

Candidates should have a research focus in Early Modern English literature, with an ability to teach both Shakespeare and non-dramatic poetry and prose.  Candidates whose research approaches the English Renaissance from a global perspective and who have interests in one or more additional fields including critical race studies, the histories of imperialism and colonialism, or ecocriticism are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach the early English literature survey, a broad range of undergraduate courses, and graduate seminars, and to mentor students writing senior theses and doctoral dissertations.

Application requirements: Applicants should submit a letter of application, CV, a writing sample (no more than 25 pages), and three letters of recommendation, submitted directly by the authors and uploaded to Interfolio. The English Department takes Tufts’ commitment to become an anti-racist institution seriously and invites dialogue on our continuing efforts to promote diversity, equity, and justice towards this collective goal.  As a start to such dialogue, we thus ask for a short statement either separately or included in the letter of application addressing how candidates expect to contribute to these efforts in their research and teaching.  All materials must be submitted through Interfolio at apply.interfolio.com/93033
