Assistant Professor of English (Creative Writing)

Position No. 00006283. The English Department at Southern Methodist University invites applicants for a tenure-track assistant professorship in creative writing beginning in the fall of 2020. We welcome specialists in all genres. To qualify, a candidate must have an advanced degree in creative writing (MFA or Ph.D.) and a record of literary accomplishment including the publication of at least one book via a nationally recognized press, along with appearances in top-tier periodicals. A record of success in undergraduate teaching is strongly preferred.

 

The successful candidate will teach upper-level creative writing workshops and our introductory course, which focuses on elements of craft essential to all of the genres we teach. Additional responsibilities include serving as academic advisor to creative writing students and working with the director of creative writing and the department’s faculty to support the program’s goals. (SMU does not currently offer any creative writing coursework at the graduate level.)
