Assistant Professor of Japanese Literature and Culture

The Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in Japanese literature and culture with concentration in any time period, to begin in the fall of 2022. A PhD in Japanese literature or a related humanities field is required by the time of appointment.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate excellence in scholarly research in their fields of specialization, and must also have significant formal training and experience in teaching. Previous experience in Japanese-language teaching at any level and/or coordination with language programs is preferred. Teaching responsibilities include upper-division undergraduate courses in the candidate’s area of specialization and upper-level language courses. Native or near-native proficiency in Japanese and English is essential.
