Assistant Professor of Spanish

The Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Le Moyne College, located in Syracuse, New York, invites applications for the full-time, tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Spanish with a specialization in Latin American and/or Caribbean Literature and Culture to begin August 2022. The Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures offers instruction in eight languages as well as majors and minors in Spanish and French, and minors in Italian, Latin, Classics, and Middle Eastern Studies.

During the first three years of this tenure-track appointment, the successful candidate will be awarded Le Moyne’s Endowed Professorship for the Study of the Americas, which provides a salary supplement, research budget, and course release per term (a typical 3-3 teaching load reduced to 2-2).  In this position, the Assistant Professor will teach courses in their area of expertise and is expected to teach all levels of literature, culture, and proficiency-based Spanish language classes, showing knowledge in language acquisition pedagogy.

Qualified candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Spanish by the position start date. ABD will be considered. Qualified candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to critical studies of race, gender, sexuality, and class in their research and teaching. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish is required. The ability to teach Spanish courses for heritage speakers as well as English-language courses in the College’s Core Curriculum is preferred. Finally, the successful candidate will advise students and serve on College-wide and departmental committees.
