Assistant Professor of English

Millikin University's English Department invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of English to teach Secondary English Language Arts courses in our English Education program, beginning August 2020. Teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester and may include:

  • Methods of Teaching Literacy in the Content Areas
  • Methods of Teaching and Assessment in Literacy and Language Arts for grades 5th-12th
  • Adolescent literature
  • First-year writing
  • Supervision of student teaching

 

Other duties include:

  • Administering and assessing the English Education program
  • Working with Millikin University's Teacher Education program
  • Ensuring that all students meet ISBE licensure requirements for English Education

 

Ideal applicants will have a minimum of three years teaching experience at the secondary/middle-school level and a Ph.D. in English Education or a closely related field. Familiarity with the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards (IPTS), Common Core State Standards for English-Language Arts (CCSS-ELA), Social/Emotional Learning Standards, and Danielson Framework and Performance Evaluation Reform Act (PERA) are desirable, as is experience integrating reading, writing, listening and speaking instruction into content area curricula. A clear record of teaching excellence is required.
