Visiting Instructor / Visiting Asst. Prof. of Hebrew and Middle East Studies

The College of Charleston invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor for teaching modern Hebrew. The position will begin August 16, 2022. We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated teacher-scholar with demonstrated excellence in teaching Modern Hebrew and a strong commitment to equitable and inclusive teaching.  

The College of Charleston has a two-year language requirement for all students, which can be satisfied by Hebrew coursework. Hebrew is also a core component for both the major and minor in Jewish Studies, as well a key language in Middle Eastern Studies. The position is benefits-eligible, the salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Hebrew and contribute courses on the cultures of the Middle East. The teaching load is twelve credit hours per semester (including at least two four-credit courses in Hebrew each semester).

Candidates must have native or near-native command of Hebrew and strong command of English. Two years of teaching experience is preferred. A Master’s degree is required but candidates with a Ph.D. in hand at the time the appointment begins are preferred.
