Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, African American Literature

The Yale University Departments of English and African American Studies seek to make two tenured or tenure-track appointments in African American literature.

We welcome candidates who work creatively within and across the U.S. Black canon, and whose methods embrace interdisciplinary and/or multi-medium approaches to literary criticism and theory. We also welcome candidates whose work places African American literature in transnational and/or comparative contexts. Among the fields in which we have particular needs and interests are 18th- to early-20th century African American literature and culture; the Black Arts Movement; post-Civil Rights and twenty-first century African American literature and culture.

Rank is open. The appointments will be joint, and can be made at the assistant, tenured associate, or full professor levels. Candidates should demonstrate a capacity for original scholarship, a strong commitment to energetic and innovative teaching, and a willingness to work collaboratively within and beyond Yale. The Ph.D. or equivalent degree at time of hire is required.

All applicants should submit a cover letter, research statement, and a CV online at http://apply.interfolio.com/69058.  ABDs, recent PhDs, and untenured candidates should also provide three letters of recommendation and a 20-page writing sample.
