The selected applicant will teach undergraduate- and graduate-level language, literature, and culture courses in a broader global context and contribute to ongoing undergraduate curricular development and outreach. The successful candidate will develop a compelling and engaging research profile. They will be expected to develop and implement concrete plans for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in and out of the classroom. They will also supervise and mentor graduate students, engage in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of curricular reform, and engage broadly in the life of the department. This position has an anticipated start date of September 2023 and will have a 9-month service period.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in German Studies or related field by September 2023. Applicants must demonstrate a record of teaching and/or research in Twentieth- or Twenty-first-Century German Studies. Applicants should also have native or near-native command of German.

Please submit an electronic application with a cover letter, CV, article-length writing sample, one-page statement of teaching effectiveness (plus sample syllabi for courses in English and upper-level German), and a one-page DEI statement detailing how your teaching, service and/or scholarship has supported the success of students from underrepresented racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds (applicants who have not yet had the opportunity for such experience should note how their work will further the University of Washington’s commitment to diversity). Please direct 3 letters of recommendation to be submitted by your references. Review of candidates will begin after Nov. 1, 2022. Contact Prof. Ellwood Wiggins for questions regarding this position (wiggins1@uw.edu).
