Assistant Professor of English and Writing Center Director

The Department of English at the University of Jamestown invites applications for an Assistant Professor of English and Director of the Writing Center beginning August 2020. This a permanent, full-time position. We are looking for someone with experience working across university departments and a background in either writing center or writing program administration.

As our University Writing Center has been open for three years, we are searching for someone who can not only maintain it, but help it grow. The writing center serves a population of about 1,200 undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff at the University of Jamestown through face-to-face, online, and email appointments. The ideal candidate would have experience with writing center or writing program administration, tutor training (or new teacher training), and WC Online. In addition, the candidate would have experience in developing marketing materials and writing- and teaching-related workshops for students and faculty.

Responsibilities: Administering the writing center, including hiring and training tutors, forging interdepartmental partnerships, developing workshops for students and faculty on campus, and consulting with writers across campus. In addition, the candidate will teach a 3-3 load, including introductory and advanced composition courses, and an upper-division grammar course.

Qualifications: Doctorate in Rhetoric and Composition and college-level teaching experience preferred. Administrative experience, with Writing Center experience preferred, including the ability to train tutors. Experience with Business and Technical Writing a real plus.
