Assistant Professor of French Studies

Wake Forest University’s Department of French Studies invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin July 1, 2020. Preferred field of research specialization: modern/contemporary French/Francophone literature and culture, particularly of the Caribbean or sub-Saharan Africa. We seek a dynamic and promising teacher-scholar whose research engages with diverse perspectives, topics, and/or populations and whose teaching will contribute to and enhance our vibrant curriculum in literature, culture, and language. We welcome applications from candidates, particularly those from underrepresented groups, who bring varied experiences, backgrounds, and approaches.

The Department of French Studies is an undergraduate department with nine full-time faculty who teach courses at all levels of the curriculum. We are a collaborative group of colleagues who share a strong commitment to engaging students with the rich and varied perspectives of the Francophone world. Our department has a major and a minor, a concentration in French for Business, and well-established faculty-led study abroad programs in Tours (summer) and Dijon (semester). In accordance with the Wake Forest teacher-scholar model, excellence in research and teaching is expected. Teaching load is 2/2/3/2 over 4 semesters. Ph.D. conferred by time of appointment. Native or near-native fluency in French. Initial interviews with selected candidates will be conducted by video conference in early January.
