MIDDLEBURY COLLEGE, MIDDLEBURY, VT 05753. The Department of English and American Literatures seeks to hire an Assistant Professor for a Tenure-Track position in British/Anglophone Literature of the long eighteenth century (1660-1830), including trans-Atlantic and transnational topics, beginning September 2020.In addition, we are particularly interested in hiring someone with strengths in one or more of the following critical approaches: queer studies; race and ethnicity studies; global literatures; transnational literatures; gender and sexuality studies; disability studies; or the intersections of science and literature.The successful candidate will have a Ph.D in English or closely related field (such as Comparative Literature) no later than August 1, 2020, and should provide evidence of commitment to excellent teaching and the potential to build a strong record of scholarly publication.The person we seek should also be willing and able to contribute regularly to the First Year Seminar and College Writing programs, as well as to one or more interdisciplinary programs (Environmental Studies; Gender, Sexuality and Feminist Studies; Comparative Literature, International and Global Studies, etc). The successful candidate will teach four courses per year (2 in the fall semester, 2 in the spring) and a month-long “Winter Term” course every other January.
