Assistant Professor of English & Communications

The Department of English and Communications invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of English and Communications. The position carries a 3/4 teaching load, and the successful candidate will also serve as advisor to the student newspaper, the Guidon, which comes with release time.

Responsibilities:
The University is seeking faculty who are committed to excellence and innovation in teaching and mentoring. Teaching assignments will initially focus on journalism and general education English courses such as first-year writing and/or public speaking. The successful candidate will play a key role in curriculum development, creating interdisciplinary courses that connect Communications and English through multimedia journalism and digital storytelling.

Opportunities also exist for interdisciplinary curriculum development with programs including Architecture, Art, Business, Cybersecurity, English, and Criminal Justice. Ideally, the successful candidate will have a strong interest in building collaborations with partners, like these, across the university. Faculty are also expected to pursue research and scholarly activity in their area of specialization.

Additional responsibilities include advising students, program assessment, and university service.

 


Requirements:

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Communications, English, or related field, in hand by July 2020, an established record of teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate level, and a commitment to ongoing professional development and service. 


Preferred qualifications include professional journalism experience.
