Assistant Professor of Early Modern Italian & Mediterranean Studies

The Department of Romance Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites qualified applicants to apply for a tenure-track position in Italian at the rank of Assistant Professor. The field of specialization is Renaissance/early modern Italian culture and its global contexts. We especially welcome candidates whose research puts literary studies in dialogue with other discourses and fields of inquiry. Our search prioritizes applicants who will contribute to a climate that values diversity in all its forms.

Required minimum qualifications are: Ph.D. in Italian or related field at time of employment, native or near-native proficiency in Italian and English, evidence of outstanding scholarship, and a record of teaching excellence, including a demonstrated or potential ability to teach students of diverse experiential and intellectual backgrounds. The position begins July 1, 2020 and carries a 2-2 teaching load with significant expectations for research, as well as departmental service.
