Assistant Professor in Philosophy and French

The Department of Philosophy and Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures invite applications for a joint appointment, tenure track position to begin August 2020. We seek a dynamic teacher and innovative scholar whose area of specialization encompasses both Continental Philosophy (broadly construed) and French language, literatures, and cultures.

The teaching load is four courses per year, evenly distributed between the Department of Philosophy and the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. The person appointed to this position will teach a range of philosophy courses, as well as all levels of French language and literature, in our supportive and pluralistic departments.

Qualifications for the position include a Ph.D. in hand or completed by the time of appointment, either in philosophy or French literature/cultural studies (or a closely related field). While the field of the doctorate is flexible the candidate must demonstrate their scholarly competence in both areas. Publications (or clear promise if early career) are required in the candidate’s non-PhD field along with relevant academic credentials and teaching experience. We especially invite applications from members of historically under-represented groups, and we invite all applicants to note in their cover letter any specific knowledge, skills, and experience related to building and operating in diverse educational environments.

Please submit the following via http://jobs.usnh.edu/postings/34142: 1) a cover letter; 2) curriculum vitae; 3) a writing sample in French; 4) contact information of four references to provide confidential letters of recommendation (two for philosophy, two for French), with at least one letter addressing the candidate’s teaching experience; and 5) a teaching portfolio or any additional materials demonstrating evidence of effective teaching (including a teaching statement). Please submit materials by November 1 to assure full consideration. Review of applications will be ongoing until the position is filled. We will conduct first round interviews via video conference.
