The Department of English and Humanities invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor with a start date of Fall 2020. We are seeking two candidates who will teach courses and bring expertise in composition, and whose scholarship complements our department profile. Experience teaching freshman writing courses is required and experience teaching technical writing is preferred. Excellence in teaching will be emphasized in the selection process. In addition, the successful candidates will demonstrate evidence of scholarship in rhetoric or composition, a demonstrated commitment to service, and a collaborative spirit. The responsibilities of each position will include a 4/4 teaching load, academic contributions to the candidate's field, and departmental and college-wide service. Please note the specific qualifications for candidacy listed below.

All faculty members at Farmingdale State College have three workload components: teaching, research and scholarly activity, and service. The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest and high level of competence in teaching. Candidates should have a research agenda that complements their area of academic specialty resulting in peer-reviewed publications and presentation, both of which are necessary for promotion and tenure at Farmingdale State College. The service component of the workload includes student advisement as well as active participation on departmental, school and college-wide committees. The faculty member may be expected to teach in multiple formats including hybrid, online and traditional face-to-face classes.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A PhD in English or Rhetoric and Composition from a regionally accredited institution
  • Two or more years of experience teaching freshman writing courses
  • Evidence of scholarship in rhetoric or composition
  • Commitment to departmental and college-wide service

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three or more years of experience teaching college courses
  • Experience teaching college-level technical writing courses
  • Service in a writing center
  • At least one refereed publication

This is a full-time, 10 month faculty position.

  • For the first 10 working days, beginning Tuesday, October 1, 2019 and ending Monday, October 14, 2019, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.
