Assistant Professor of Spanish

The College of Idaho invites applications for a tenure-track position in Spanish beginning August 2020, housed in the Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. The successful candidate will be able to offer a wide range of courses, from beginning and intermediate Spanish language to advanced literary and cultural studies and / or in applied linguistics. Possible specializations include but are not limited to Mexican and/or Latin American literature; women's literature in Spanish; Latinx or Chicana/o literature; Hispanic/Latino cultural studies; sociolinguistics; second language acquisition. This hire also will strengthen opportunities for Service Learning in the Spanish major and oversee the development of our Heritage Speaker program. WLC faculty share advising and administrative responsibilities, and Spanish faculty contribute to an interdisciplinary program in Latin American Studies.

Candidates should demonstrate experience in working with a diverse student population, including in teaching heritage and native speakers. Excellent teaching and mentoring of students are the highest priorities of the College. The successful candidate will also have an active scholarship agenda; the College provides a sabbatical leave program and professional development support for both teaching and research. The usual teaching load is 21 credits per year, which includes a course in the College’s intensive January term, often used for faculty-led international courses. Ph.D. and native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English required.
