Visiting Assistant Professor

The Department of Germanic Studies in the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications for a 3-semester faculty appointment in German beginning January 20, 2020. This position is not on the tenure track. Area of specialization is open; however, applicants with interests in migration studies, critical race studies, literary multilingualism, and/or critical language pedagogy are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the Department’s academic and extracurricular programs; to pursue an active research agenda; to teach 2 courses a semester at the undergraduate and MA levels; to engage in departmental service such as program assessment and mentoring of MA students; and to play a dynamic role in curriculum development through the creation of new courses.

Qualifications: PhD in hand by January 1, 2020; evidence of exceptional scholarly achievement and excellence in teaching; and native or near-native fluency in both German and English. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will also receive a budget for moving expenses and research travel.

 

This position will be filled as a Visiting Assistant Professor. There is no tenure associated with this position.
