Assistant Professor of Arabic

The Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Arabic to join the Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies beginning August 2020.

The successful candidate will have near-native proficiency in Arabic and English and hold a Ph.D. in Arabic, Comparative Literature, Second Language Acquisition, or in another language offered in the Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies with a minimum of eighteen graduate hours of coursework in Arabic. The successful candidate will demonstrate teaching excellence and a commitment to diversity and inclusive pedagogy. The candidate will have an active research agenda, and have the ability to contribute to curricular development, program building, and extracurricular activities. The position requires the following: teaching Arabic language at all undergraduate levels and courses in English on contemporary cultures of the Arabic-speaking world. The LIS Department offers both a major and a minor in Languages and Intercultural Studies with a concentration in Multiple Languages that allows students to combine study of Arabic and one additional language. The Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts offers an undergraduate major in Intelligence and National Security Studies with over 250 students enrolled, as well as minors in Islamic Studies and Global Studies with a Middle Eastern Studies concentration. The new colleague will work collaboratively to develop curricular offerings relevant to these and other student for whom linguistic and cultural competence is a critical component of their academic and professional training.
