ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

The Department of World Languages and Cultures at Southeastern Louisiana University invites applications for a tenure track position of Assistant Professor of Spanish, beginning Fall 2020. We are looking for a talented generalist primarily committed to undergraduate teaching, able to maintain an active and productive research agenda, and ready to engage in service at the Department, College and University levels. The selected candidate will teach courses in Spanish language and Hispanic literatures and cultures within the departmental major program, with the possibility to teach upper level courses in professional Spanish and design Special Topics seminars. Familiarity with online instruction and interest in Service-learning and Study Abroad programs will be particularly considered.

Southeastern Louisiana University is a progressive and comprehensive university that enrolls approximately 15,000 graduate and undergraduate students. The University's campus is located in Hammond at the crossroads of Interstates I-55 and I-12 in the heart of Louisiana's thriving Northshore, the fastest growing region in the state. Ph.D. degree in Spanish or Spanish Education by hire date. 

Demonstrated excellence in college teaching, and native or near-native fluency in Spanish are required.

Desired Qualifications: Familiarity with online instruction and interest in Service-learning and Study Abroad programs will be particularly considered.  Qualification to teach another of the languages offered by the Department (i.e. 18 hours of graduate studies in the discipline) will be a plus.

Candidates selected for a preliminary review will be required to have three confidential letters of reference forwarded to the Search Committee. They will also be asked to provide the Search Committee with a syllabus for a Special Topics seminar to be ideally offered in the spring semester of 2021 (whose academic calendar can be accessed from the Southeastern webpage). Semifinalists will be asked for a phone/Skype interview and finalists will be invited on campus for a teaching demonstration.
