The Department of East Asian Studies at New York University invites applications for an open field tenure-track position in Japanese Studies; the rank is open but preference will be given to junior or mid-career candidates. We encourage all applicants engaged with critical and methodological issues connected to Japan and East Asian Studies, including those working within and across media and film, literature, intellectual history, urban studies, gender/sexuality studies, postcolonial studies, and cultural studies. We seek candidates interested in working in a department that encourages transregional and global perspectives. The initial appointment begins September 1, 2020, and it is subject to budgetary and administrative approval.
The successful candidate must be in possession of a relevant doctoral degree, and demonstrate scholarly excellence and a commitment to both graduate and undergraduate teaching.
