Associate Director of First-Year Writing

The Department of English at the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applications for a full-time 12-month Academic Professional position as Associate Director of the First-Year Writing program to begin Spring 2020. This position will report to the Director of the First-Year Writing Program. The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to take on a critical administrative role and a commitment to teaching first-year writing courses to a diverse student body. The position will oversee the scheduling and staffing of all first-year writing courses; help evaluate curricular, programming, personnel, and budgetary matters; coordinate the placement testing process; monitor student enrollment in first-year writing courses and respond to all related inquiries; and supervise all administrative functions of the first-year writing program office, including running the weekly staff meetings. The Associate Director will teach one section of a first-year writing course each fall and spring semester.

A minimum of 2 years teaching first-year writing required. M.A. or Ph.D. in English or a related field required. Administrative experience in a college writing program strongly preferred.
