The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures of the University of Hawai'i at Manoa invites applications for a full time, tenure-track, position #83379, in pre-modern Japanese literature at the level of Assistant Professor to start Fall 2020, pending position clearance and availability of funds.
Duties and Responsibilities: Teach graduate courses in area of pre-modern specialization; teach undergraduate courses in Japanese literature and culture, and Japanese language courses, including classical Japanese; advise both undergraduate and graduate students; conduct and publish research in area(s) of specialization; and contribute service at the department, college, university, and community levels.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent in premodern Japanese literature, or related field from a college or university of recognized standing (ABD will be considered; all requirements for degree must be completed by August 2020); experience teaching at a college level; evidence of scholarly achievement in field; high level of proficiency in Japanese and English; and demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially.
Desirable Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to teach courses in both Japanese language and Japanese literature. Ability to develop courses in newer interdisciplinary fields.
