Tenure-Track position in Peninsular Studies

Department of Spanish and Portuguese Languages and Literatures

New York University Arts and Science

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at New York University invites applicants for an assistant professor tenure-track position in the field of Spanish Peninsular literature and culture. Interests can range from the eighteenth century to the present, with specialty and chronological focus open. We are especially interested in advanced assistant professor candidates and, in exceptional circumstances, may consider more senior candidates at the rank of associate professor. The position start date is September 1, 2020, pending administrative and budgetary approval. For full consideration, candidates should submit materials by December 30th, 2019; the search will remain open until filled.

Our department is composed of a diverse group of scholars who have worked together to create a rigorous and inclusive environment for research and teaching. Faculty work in literature, history, philosophy, and a range of inter-related cultural studies areas (including archival studies, animal studies, sexuality studies, migration studies, post-colonial studies, and transatlantic studies). We encourage new approaches to the study of visual culture, print culture, sound, and performance studies.

We are especially interested in applicants whose work challenges the geographic, linguistic, and cultural scope of the field, and who see themselves as an integral part of NYU's Peninsular studies scholarly community, which includes NYU Madrid, the King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center, and the Journal of Spanish Cultural Studies.

Application materials: Cover Letter, curriculum vitae, 1-page Teaching Statement, writing sample (book chapter or published article preferred), names and contact information for 3 References and a statement on your approach to diversity and inclusion. Diversity is an important part of the NYU mission and we ask that you address how diversity and inclusion factor into past and present teaching, research, and/or community engagement, as well as how you would bring issues of diversity to bear on teaching and programming at NYU.
