The Yale University Departments of French and African American Studies seek to appoint a scholar in Francophone literatures and cultures. Scholarship may focus on Caribbean and/or sub-Saharan African literature, on their diasporas, and on theoretical approaches to the study of race, as well as the history of those approaches. The field may include the two areas mentioned as well as literature of the second and greater generations of these areas who are now in France.
Rank is open, and appointments can be made at the assistant, tenured associate, or full professor levels. Candidates should demonstrate a capacity for original scholarship and a strong commitment to energetic and innovative teaching. Interest in interdisciplinary work and a demonstrated engagement with related fields of study are highly desirable. At time of hire the Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) and native or near-native command of French are required.
