Tenure Track Assistant Professor, French - Bentley University

SUMMARY:

The Department of Modern Languages at Bentley University seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of French. This position will begin on July 1, 2020.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to foreign language teaching, show evidence of scholarly excellence and recently published output, possess native or near-native fluency in French, and hold a Ph.D. We seek a candidate who specializes in applied linguistics, second language acquisition, or pedagogy and will focus on applying the latest research to enhancing our French program. The candidate will be expected to teach courses on French at all levels, including French for the Professions and create courses in writing and other applied language courses. The candidate’s research agenda should be related to language acquisition or pedagogy. The Modern Languages Department is interested in expanding our French courses with applied learning experiences, which could include service learning, internships, and study abroad. We welcome candidates with experience or creative ideas on how to do this.

Criteria for selection include: a) evidence of excellent scholarship, b) proven effective teaching of French at all levels (beginning through advanced), and c) native or near-native linguistic proficiency.

Bentley University is a private business university located nine miles west of Boston, Massachusetts with an undergraduate student population of 4,200 and a graduate student population of 1,000 interested in business professions study in a wide range of AACSB accredited undergraduate and graduate business programs. Bentley University is also one of only a few US business schools and approximately 130 business schools worldwide to earn European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) accreditation.

 

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in French or related field by date of appointment. Candidates should demonstrate scholarly research and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to teach another language offered in the Department (Chinese, Italian, Japanese, or Spanish) is a plus but not required.
