Assistant Professor Spanish

The Department of Romance Studies invites applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish with specialization in the field of early Spanish literature and culture with a July 2020 starting date, pending budgetary approval.

We prefer that research and teaching, at the undergraduate and graduate level, focus on the linguistic, literary, religious, and cultural diversity of medieval Iberia during its first 500 years of cultural production, and its legacy in contemporary Spain and Europe. Research should ideally involve both Spanish and a second peninsular language. An interest in translation and other forms of cultural and literary exchange would be welcome.

In enhancing our curriculum in Spanish as well as BU’s Program in Medieval Studies and/or other interdisciplinary programs, we support with enthusiasm the University’s belief that “success in a competitive, global milieu depends upon our ongoing commitment to welcome and engage the wisdom, creativity, and aspirations of all peoples.” We believe that the cultural and social diversity of our Department is vitally important to the excellence of our academic programs, and we encourage applications from candidates who will contribute to the diversity and inclusiveness of our teaching, research, and learning.

Applicants should submit through Academic Jobs Online a letter describing teaching and research interests, a diversity statement, a full curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references. For full consideration, applications should be submitted at: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/14178 by October 15, 2019. Inquiries about the position may be directed to Prof. James Iffland, iffland@bu.edu, chair of the search committee.
