Assistant Professor of French

The Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures at Texas Tech University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2020. We are seeking a dynamic teacher-scholar of French and Francophone literature and culture with a research specialization in a period from the 16th century to the long 19th century (inclusive). The successful candidate will show evidence of strong, ongoing scholarly achievement or potential as demonstrated by publications and/or works in progress. A secondary research specialization in a particular critical methodology (e.g., gender studies, visual studies, cultural studies, media studies, critical theory, etc.) is desirable, but not required. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a capacity for high-quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels as both a specialist and a generalist, engaging with a range of time periods and subject matter. Service duties include program-building, as well as commitment to extra-curricular activities.  Service to the department, college, and university is expected.  The candidate must have the Ph.D. in hand by the date of appointment. Native or near-native fluency in French is required.
