Part-Time Editorial and Communications Assistant

The Modern Language Association (MLA) seeks a part-time editorial and communications assistant to support the office of outreach, primarily the association’s open-access magazine Profession.

Reporting to the MLA’s director of outreach, the assistant will provide developmental editing and administrative support. The assistant will also contribute to the development of communication strategies, research and aggregate third-party content for MLA properties, and write copy for Web and e-mail communications.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree and at least one year of graduate work in a humanities discipline
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and research skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, WordPress, and social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn
  • Experience editing for a journal, magazine, book publisher, or Web site
  • Knowledge of style and usage guides, including the MLA Handbook and The Chicago Manual of Style
