Assistant Professor

The U.S. Naval Academy invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor to begin as early as August 2021 in the English Department.

The English Department seeks to appoint a scholar in the field of Literature of the Americas. We are particularly interested in those who focus on Latinx literature and culture. We welcome PhDs in English or related fields (including Comparative Literature and Film/Media Studies).

The Naval Academy English Department is a mix of civilians with doctorates and military officers. All tenure-track faculty teach at all levels of the curriculum, including upper-level courses for English majors and sections of our two-semester freshman English sequence, Rhetoric and Introduction to Literature. The freshman courses—which are both introductions to literature and writing courses—are organized generically: plays, essays, and short stories in the fall; novels and poems in the spring.  Each instructor designs an individual syllabus and chooses which books to teach within these guidelines.

Teaching Load: 9 hours/semester (two sections of freshman English and one upper-level literature course).
