Job Summary:The faculty member teaches full-time (mostly online), engages in scholarship/creative activity, and coordinates the MA specializations in Creative Writing Pedagogy/Literature in the Liberal Arts Department within the School for Professional Advancement at Regis University. As Program Coordinator, the faculty member has responsibility for teaching observation, degree evaluations, student mentoring, reviewing graduate program applications, administrative support to affiliate faculty, resolving teaching/course issues, curriculum planning/assessment, and is the liaison to the MFA program in Regis College. 49% of students in Regis College are students of color and we seek applicants from historically underrepresented groups. This position also includes recruiting culturally and linguistically diverse students, assessing and mentoring affiliate faculty, and other administrative duties as assigned. The position will be filled pending final budgetary approval for fiscal year 2022.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The faculty member teaches graduate classroom and online course in Creative Writing Pedagogy and Literature within the MA program, Creative Writing in the MFA Program, with additional undergraduate teaching possible in English Composition and Humanities; pursues scholarship/creative activity; works with the Liberal Arts Chair and the MFA Program to coordinate and lead activities related to course/curriculum development and revision; works with the Liberal Arts Chair to recruit, assess and mentor new affiliate faculty; represents the Creative Writing Pedagogy/Literature Program with marketing and new student enrollment initiatives; participates in fundraising efforts on behalf of the Creative Writing/Literature Program; serves on school, college, and university-level committees; participates in efforts to further the mission and objectives of the University in service to students, alumni, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders; works with culturally and linguistically diverse students;

participates in faculty development, and performs other relevant duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Faculty member must have obtained the following: (1) an MFA in Creative Writing or a Ph.D. (which is preferred) in English, Literature, or other related fields, accredited by a regional accrediting association or an equivalent institution outside the US; (2) experience teaching ground-based and online courses in Creative Writing (or Creative Writing Pedagogy) and Literature; (3) experience in curriculum development of courses in both online and ground-based formats; (4) proven success working with diverse populations of students.

Preferred candidates will have the ability to teach English Composition as well as Ignatian Humanities courses, experience working in groups/teams to accomplish joint projects/goals; excellent oral and written communication skills; skill with Microsoft Office programs; a proven ability to understand and incorporate Ignatian values of social justice and the promotion of human dignity within teaching practice; and evidence of teaching excellence particularly with culturally and linguistically diverse students.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instruction (50%)

Effectively teach courses in Creative Writing, Creative Writing Pedagogy, Literature, and related disciplines in both classroom and online formats to a diverse student population.

Program Coordination (20%):

 

 

  • Assist in development, monitoring, and revision of curriculum for the faculty member's respective programs in the school.
  • Participate in the committee work of Regis University, the School for Professional Advancement, the Creative Writing Pedagogy/Literature Program, and the MFA Program especially in the areas of curricular development, textbook selection, and course scheduling.
  • Oversee the recruitment, assessment, training, and supervision of full-time and affiliate faculty in the Creative Writing/Literature Program.
  • Assist the Liberal Arts Department Chair in administering and reviewing program evaluation tools.
  • Remain current on textbooks and teaching innovations in order to develop contemporary and relevant curriculum that reflects an appreciation and understanding of issues of diversity and inclusion.
  • Attend appropriate university, college, school, and departmental meetings.
  • Support the marketing efforts of the School for Professional Advancement and Creative Writing Pedagogy/Literature.
  • Perform other duties as deemed reasonable by the Department Chair of Liberal Arts and the Academic or Assistant Dean of the School for Professional Advancement.

 


Scholarship (20%)

Engage in scholarly research/creative activity and use that work to facilitate effective and relevant teaching practices.

Student Mentoring (5%)

Be available to Creative Writing Pedagogy/Literature students and provide them with culturally appropriate academic and career mentoring.

Professional Development (5%):

Pursue professional training and development with respect to course instruction and the faculty member's academic discipline.
