Assistant Professor of Hispanic Linguistics

Texas Tech University, a research institution with over 37,000 students, seeks a tenure-track assistant professor in Spanish with a specialization in applied linguistics, second language acquisition, or Spanish as a heritage language to start fall 2021. Texas Tech University recently surpassed the Hispanic student population threshold necessary for designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI).

We are interested in hiring a dynamic individual to direct the Spanish Heritage Language (SHL) program and teach Spanish language and linguistics courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish is required. Responsibilities include an ongoing program of research related to SHL and a commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching. Preference will be given to candidates (1) who have previous experience with SHL teaching, curricula development, programming and/or direction, (2) who promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and (3) who have the proven capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech University. Engaged scholarship with local Hispanic communities, diverse student populations and first-generation students is highly desirable. Service to the department, college, university and community is expected. Must have a Ph.D. in hand by beginning of appointment.
