The Department of English at West Virginia University invites applications for the newly endowed Gaziano Family Legacy Professor of English. This is a tenured position at either the associate or full professor level to begin August 2021.

We seek candidates with demonstrated excellence in research and teaching in the area of Rhetoric and Writing Studies, broadly defined. Topics of interest might include, but are not limited to: histories of rhetoric, eco-criticism and environmental rhetoric, public humanities, digital literacies and the digital humanities, disability studies, medical humanities, technical and professional writing, publishing and editing.

The department is interested in senior or rapidly-rising mid-career scholars of national reputation who are capable of attracting graduate students; collaborating with faculty across our existing programs in professional writing, creative writing, and literature; and assisting with the launch of a new undergraduate major in Writing Studies. The teaching load is 1–1. The position entails significant leadership responsibilities and carries benefits commensurate with an endowed professorship at WVU.  The position requires a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, a record of excellent teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and a record of significant scholarly publications. The record of teaching and research should merit both a grant of tenure at WVU and appointment as the Gaziano Professor.

WVU is located in Morgantown, West Virginia, within easy traveling distance of Washington, D.C. to the east, Pittsburgh to the north, Cleveland and Columbus to the west, and Charlotte to the south, making it an ideal place to live and work. Morgantown has been ranked as the Number One Small City in America by BizJounals and the 5th Best Small Metro Area by Forbes.
