Overview
The Department of English at Utah State University seeks applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in the field of African American and/or African Diasporic Literature. Preferred areas of interest include Black literatures of the long nineteenth century, poetry, and Gender and Sexuality Studies. This is an academic-year (9-month) research-intensive position with a teaching load of two courses per semester (2/2). The position will begin in August 2021.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach literature courses in their field(s) at different levels of the curriculum: general education, undergraduate majors, and/or graduate courses. These courses will be based on the Logan campus, in Northern Utah's scenic Cache Valley.

Qualifications
Applicants are required to earn their Ph.D. in English, Comparative Literature, or a related field (including interdisciplinary programs), with a strong preference for candidates who will have their Ph.D. in hand by the starting date.
The successful applicant will have a proven record of both research excellence and strong teaching.

The department especially seeks applicants who bring to their academic careers the important perspectives that come from the experiences of members of groups historically underrepresented in higher education in the United States. Accordingly, scholars from diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
