Assistant Professor of Spanish

The Department of Foreign Languages at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor of Spanish, tenure-track position, starting in Fall 2021. Applicants from any field of Iberian or Latin American literature, culture or linguistics are welcome to apply. The ideal candidate is a generalist with a passion for teaching and a serious commitment to Liberal Arts undergraduate education.  The teaching load is 4-4 with an expectation of service and scholarly research.

The selected candidate will offer introductory language courses,  humanities courses, and a freshman seminar, all included in the general education curriculum. The position also serves the Spanish program through a wide range of intermediate and advanced courses including grammar and composition, conversation, literature, civilization, translation, special topics in Hispanic culture and literature, and commercial Spanish. Departmental service includes student recruitment, assessment, and academic advising.

Candidates applying for this position must hold a Ph.D. in Spanish by the time of appointment and have demonstrated college teaching experience. Native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English is required. Proven knowledge of innovative foreign languages teaching methodologies, online course design, and experience in study abroad  are a plus.

2) A letter of interest demonstrating a commitment to academic excellence in a liberal arts environment with a mission of leadership and excellence.

3) A detailed statement of teaching philosophy, including specific areas of teaching interest and a brief explanation of the theoretical and/or methodological approaches used in teaching a foreign language.

4) Two complete sets of recent course evaluations for elementary Spanish and one set of course evaluations of an intermediate or advanced Spanish, all combined in one PDF document.

Semi-finalists may be asked for additional documentation and preliminary interviews will be held by ZOOM videoconference. Finalists will be invited for a campus visit.
