Assistant Professor of British Literature

Assistant Professor of British Literature

Centenary College of Louisiana invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in English, beginning August 2021. We seek candidates who can demonstrate excellence in teaching and scholarship, who understand the nature of teaching in a liberal arts setting, who excel at conveying their passion for literature and writing, and who would contribute to Centenary's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Candidates should be prepared to teach a range of courses in British Literature, especially courses before the Modern Era, and first-year and upper-level writing classes (which could include workshops in Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, or Advanced Rhetoric). The ideal candidate would be a generalist who might also have an interest working with students on editing and publishing.  Candidates should have an earned PhD by August 2021.

The unique format of the Centenary schedule, where each semester consists of a regular term and an immersion term, allows faculty to be creative in developing departmental and interdisciplinary course offerings, including courses for programs such as Centenary in Paris in the fall or May Immersion classes in the spring. The annual teaching load is 3-3. Centenary offers an undergraduate liberal arts environment where faculty members work closely with students both in and out of the classroom, participate in interdisciplinary curricular and co-curricular pursuits, and enjoy the support of faculty and staff colleagues from across the College.

Centenary College of Louisiana is a selective, residential, national liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Founded in 1825, it is the oldest chartered liberal arts college west of the Mississippi river and is a member of the Associated Colleges of the South. Centenary College is located in the Shreveport-Bossier City metroplex in northwest Louisiana, named recently as a “city of opportunity” and listed among Money Magazine’s “Best Places to Live.” Centenary College recognizes that diversity is essential to its goal of providing an educational environment where students explore the unfamiliar, invent new approaches to understanding, and connect their work and lives to the world at large. We thus welcome applicants who would add to the College’s diversity of ideas, beliefs, experiences, and cultural backgrounds.  www.centenary.edu EOE.
