Assistant Professor of the Practice in Hispanic Studies / Coordinator of Upper Level Spanish Lang.

The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at Boston College invites applications for the position of Coordinator of the Upper Level (post-Intermediate) Spanish Language Program with the rank of Assistant Professor of the Practice. This is a three-year, non-tenure track, full-time appointment beginning July 1, 2021, renewable upon successful review.

The applicant must have a Ph.D. (in hand by June 2021) in Second Language Acquisition, Applied Linguistics, Foreign Language Education, or related field. Applicants with doctorates primarily in literature or culture will not be considered. The successful candidate will also have native or near-native ability in both Spanish and English; experience in course coordination, personnel supervision, and curriculum development; evidence of excellence in teaching; familiarity with computer-assisted instruction; and the ability to train instructors in language-teaching methodology.

The Coordinator of the Upper Level Spanish administers a large, multi-section language program (consisting of "Conversation, Composition and Reading” and "Advanced Spanish") to ensure uniformity of pedagogy, instructional materials, learning outcomes, and a seamless transition between the courses. Responsibilities include teaching 5 sections per academic year, conducting pre-service and in-service workshops, performing class observations, addressing student concerns, and developing exams, quizzes and other course materials, in addition to hiring and training part-time faculty and Teaching Fellows (student teachers from our M.A. program).
