Writing Program Director, Assistant/Associate Professor of English

Muhlenberg College seeks a full-time faculty Director for our nationally recognized Writing Across the Curriculum Program, who will also serve as a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of English. Muhlenberg's WAC program includes writing-intensive courses in virtually all departments, First-Year Seminars for all incoming students, a writing fellows program in which trained undergraduate tutors are embedded in writing-intensive courses, and a Writing Center. The English Department teaches a wide variety of courses in literature and writing and is looking for a colleague with a specialty in any area of literature or writing to enrich department offerings and to help us prepare our diverse student body to read and write in the ever-evolving modes of the 21st century.

We are a collegial institution that values scholarship, active learning, innovative pedagogy, professional development, interdepartmental collaboration, and inclusivity across identities and backgrounds.  Numerous opportunities to exchange ideas with the campus community are available through the programs of the Muhlenberg Center for Teaching and Learning, our Center for Ethics, our Office of Multicultural Life, our Living Writers reading series and more.

The new Writing Program Director will be responsible for faculty development, including workshops for faculty on writing and writing instruction, as well as training and mentoring a staff of 50+ tutors in conjunction with the Assistant Director of the Writing Center. The successful candidate will also teach, annually in load, a course on the theory and practice of writing instruction. Other course offerings in literature and/or writing will depend on the applicant’s areas of interest. This position has a 1:2 teaching load.

Experience and terminal degree required; Ph.D. preferred, specialization open.

Interested candidates should upload their completed applications as a single PDF file to our Workday application portal. A complete application will include: (1) a cover letter describing writing program administration experience and teaching and research interests, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) a statement of teaching philosophy and 2 sample syllabi (one in the theory and practice of writing instruction and one in the applicant’s specialty), (4) contact information for three recommenders, and (5) a separate statement describing how the candidate will enhance the Department and College’s efforts to become a more diverse and inclusive community.

Review of applications will begin November 23 and continue until the position is filled.
