Assistant Professor in French Studies

The Department of French Studies in the College of Humanities & Social Sciences at Louisiana State University is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in one or more areas of Early Modern, Modern and Contemporary Francophone Caribbean Studies including Louisiana and the Gulf Coast, and Oceanic Studies. We seek a candidate with an interdisciplinary focus in one of the following fields: linguistics, eco-criticism and ecology, geography, history. Designated as one of the “Centers of Excellence” by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, the Department of French Studies and its Center for French and Francophone Studies are, in addition, part of the French Académie des Sciences d’Outre-Mer’s network of Chaires Senghor de la Francophonie.  

Required Qualifications: The candidate must have a PhD or an equivalent degree and a native or near-native mastery of both French and English. Knowledge of spoken and written creole is desirable.

Responsibilities: Ability to teach French-language undergraduate courses, as well as graduate courses in their field of expertise.  Interest in innovative pedagogy and expertise in digital forms of delivery is also desirable.

The candidate’s research in their area of expertise must be commensurate with LSU’s Carnegie Classification as a RU/VH (Research University – very high research activity). The university and the department are committed to cultural diversity and we seek a colleague who shares those values.

Possibilities for collaboration with multiple interdisciplinary programs, such as Comparative Literature, Linguistics, African and African-American Studies, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and other colleges within the university.
