Director, Merritt Writing Program

The School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts (SSHA) seeks a Director of the Merritt Writing Program, with an associated tenured appointment in Writing Studies. The successful candidate will be appointed as either an Associate Teaching Professor, a Teaching Professor, an Associate Professor, or a Full Professor, depending on their qualifications.

Our interdisciplinary department offers significant opportunities to continue to develop a distinctive, high‐quality and comprehensive academic program. The Merritt Writing Program features a highly professionalized faculty and staff dedicated to student success in composition and a comprehensive writing studies minor. Situated in the School of Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts the program has highly developed governance and staff support for assessment, service, research, and grant initiatives.

A successful candidate would have significant experience in writing program administration, a strong record of professional activity in writing studies, a tangible commitment to diversity and equity, experience with student‐centered pedagogy and assessment, a strong record of teaching and mentorship, and interest and/or experience with grants and budgets.

To be considered, candidates must have a terminal degree (EdD, MFA or PhD) in Rhetoric, Composition, or a related field by the position start date. Additional qualifications include at least two years of comprehensive relevant administrative experience and at least five years of effective and related teaching experience.

The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2021.
