Assistant Professor of English in Children's Literature

The Department of Literature in the College of Arts and Humanities invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor of Literature in Children’s Literature. The home campus for this position will be the Statesboro campus although teaching opportunities will be available on all campuses as well as online.

Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of Literature, this Assistant Professor of English faculty position requires teaching, research, and service responsibilities. The position is an academic (9/10 month), tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned PhD in English, or a closely related field, by August 1, 2021.
  • Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
  • Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Children’s Literature Specialty.
  • Subspecialty in Media and/or Film Studies desired.
  • Experience and interest in contributing to growing a digital humanities program in literature which may include pursuit of grant-funded opportunities, occasions for collaborative public engagement, and development of interdisciplinary and collaborative projects.
  • Potential subspecialties could include multicultural literatures, adolescent literature, and/or LGBTQ issues.
  • Engagement in interdisciplinary or collaborative efforts across conventional literary historical boundaries.

Screening of applications begins December 15, 2020 and continues until the position is filled. The preferred position starting date is August 1, 2021.
