Visiting Assistant Professor of Japanese

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Swarthmore College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Japanese for the 2021-2022 academic year, with the possibility of renewal. Responsibilities include a combination of Japanese language teaching, courses in the candidate’s discipline taught in English, and assistance with administration of the Japanese Section. Candidates with expertise in fields including Japanese linguistics, literature, and language pedagogy are encouraged to apply.

The Japanese program is a vibrant component of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, offering students four years of rigorous Japanese language instruction, courses in Japanese literature and film, and numerous co-curricular study opportunities.

Qualifications

College-level Japanese-language teaching experience is expected. The ideal candidate will have Ph.D. in hand at the time of the appointment; candidates at advanced ABD status may also be considered.
